| The series will explore
the evolution of America’s perception of its environment,
examine the effects that pollution, the use of fossil and nuclear
fuels, public policy and urban planning have had on our natural
environment and health, and reveal the faces of those who have
struggled to save the earth’s resources. This is a passionate
story of vision, heroics, bitter defeats and heartfelt victories.
A story where the ideals of human potential have changed the course
of history and continue to fuel the vital struggles to save our
home, the earth. Most importantly, this is a story that will make
complex environmental issues understandable to a large general
audience and show that our quality of life is inextricably linked
to, and ultimately dependent upon, the health of the earth. This
history will be the first comprehensive series to gather the stories
from past and present generations and create a thoughtful, emotional
timeline that connects these seemingly insurmountable issues into
a coherent and manageable whole.
Drawing from a wide variety of perspectives including scientists,
community activists, industry and government leaders, researchers,
writers, indigenous people, academics, artists and members of
the public, we will trace the above themes through the stories
and personal reflections of those involved. This rich and expansive
history will come alive utilizing in-depth interviews, footage
of recent and historical events, still photographs, visually compelling
graphics and demonstrations of environmental concepts, archival
documents, historical audio, dramatic readings, music, and narration.
